About This Site
This site is about old, mostly-defunct dining establishments in or around the City of Los Angeles…restaurants that I went to. It may or may not feature restaurants that you went to.
When I set up an earlier version of this material, I received a number of vituperative e-mails from folks who were livid that I’d omitted some favorite eatery from their past. Some acted like I’d made a grievous factual error; like I’d set up a blog about everyone who was ever pitched for the Dodgers and been such a lunkhead that I’d left out Sandy Koufax. Others responded like I’d trashed their mothers by deliberately slighting a piece of their childhood. I wrote back to the less-hysterical ones and said things like “The reason I didn’t include [name of favorite restaurant] is that I never went there and have nothing to say about it.” This appeased some but not all.
I also received a couple of angry messages from the owners (or fans of) places that are or were currently open objecting to their non-inclusion. The page then was called “Great Los Angeles Restaurants That Ain’t There No More” and the proprietor of one chain that’s still in operation was irate that her restaurants weren’t included. Since then, several of her outlets have closed so it looks like she’ll get in here soon.
The reason I mention all this is that if a treasured dining establishment from your past is absent from here, you’ll have to help me put it on this site. Write up your recollections of the place. Find an old menu or photo or other illustration.
You can reach me at firstname.lastname@example.org. And if you have your own memories of the restaurants mentioned, please post a comment. Thanks!
